Matthew Ha

My name is Matthew Ha, and I am a second-year political science and communication student at the University of Ottawa. I have interests in politics, philosophy, and art.

I have work experience in the public sector and have been a volunteer for various youth advocacy organizations. I joined YAN to be more involved with the youth community here in Ottawa and to support initiatives that advocate for important causes.

In my off time, I enjoy watching sci-fi or crime drama T.V. shows, my favourite being "The Wire!"

Amira Brehaut (she/her)

My name is Amira Brehaut (she/her), and I am a second-year psychology student at the University of Ottawa. I am also a passionate activist in my community with particular interests in intersectional feminism, 2SLGBTQ+ rights, and mental health advocacy.

I first heard about Youth Action Now through my work with the Purple Sisters Youth Advisory; our team was fortunate enough to receive one of YAN’s grants for a demonstration we hosted. With YAN’s support, we were able to take our feminist advocacy to new heights and create empowering events for young people across the city. I was thrilled to join the YAN team as I have experienced first-hand what this kind of support can do for young activists. With the right opportunity, young people are more than capable of creating meaningful change.

Chris Osler (He/him)

Chris has worked in various capacities with non-profits and NGOs for over 30 years. He completed an undergraduate degree in International Development and then an MEd. in Critical Pedagogy and Cultural Studies before shifting from International work to Community Development here in Ottawa. For the past two decades, Chris has been working with the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre and currently acts as the Community Development and Engagement Team Leader. Active in anti-oppression and health equity work, Chris is involved in various initiatives locally in Ottawa.

About 15 years ago, he met Paul while serving on the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization Board. His work in Old Ottawa East also overlapped with initiatives that Julia was leading. Chris is excited and inspired by the promise of Youth Action Now and is a supportive volunteer.

Esther Fagbola (she/her)

My name is Esther Fagbola (she/her). I am a community builder, facilitator of conversations surrounding social justice and a consultant.

I have a degree in Social Sciences with a specialization in Psychology and a minor in Criminology. I am the Founder of Project Agape. We are a Black, survivor-led organization that educates on all components of gendered violence and supports Black survivors, promoting survivor advocacy and community building in Black women and gender-diverse folks. I joined Youth Action Now because youth deserve a seat at the table when decisions should be made about our impact and communities. I especially have an interest in making sure that the voices of Black and Indigenous youth are heard and appreciated when decisions are made about projects and funding.
