What

The CUSA Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre (GSRC) is a drop-in and resource centre for the LGBTQIA+ student population at Carleton University and surrounding community. Serving the queer community at Carleton, they have regularly seen around twenty to thirty students dropping in everyday. Their primary areas of interest are community education, advocacy, social programming, and connections with other community resources for queer youth. They are planning events such as Rainbow Frosh, Queer Identities 101 workshops, Allyship 101.

In their words: “We provide a safe(r) space for queer students to feel welcome and celebrated. LGBTQIA+ youth face challenges and discrimination unique to our community in the educational sphere, and it is important that we are reminded that we are not alone. The GSRC also has a unique opportunity to take up space on campus and to educate queer folks and allies alike on queer sexual and gender identities. It is important to me that the queer community on campus has the visibility we deserve, and I believe that the presence of a queer space may both help students to feel safer on campus and connect them with community resources.”
