What

The Ethnocultural Youth Advisory Committee (EYAC) is a sub-committee of the Youth Services Bureau (YSB) that focuses on creating a more culturally sensitive Ottawa. We plan to reach approximately 40 to 50 ethno-cultural and at-risk youth between the ages of 16 to 21. We plan to host a 2-part event on World Mental Health Day (October 10th) between 6-8pm. We will invite a comedian of color who will perform a set on mental health to raise awareness, reduce stigma, unite the audience and take them on a journey of shared experiences.

In their words: “We hope to be successful in cultivating a positive and supportive safe space where youth feel comfortable and confident to be vulnerable and open in sharing stories in an organic way. Our aim is to foster collective healing through shared experiences among the youth as they recognize they are not alone in their suffering.”
