What
Sandy Hill - Lowertown Connections for Success is an initiative aimed at connecting youth to professionals from their communities working in fields in which they are interested. A lot of youth moving on from undergrad and high school are in a position where they are unsure about how to make decisions for their future. Connecting them with professionals who are from their community and can speak of their experiences is a great way to assist youth on making informed decisions about their future. We want to host an event connecting the youth from Sandy Hill and Lowertown with professionals and have small group discussions where the youth can ask questions and form connections with the professionals. We would also have workshops to help youth be more informed about how to transition from high school to post secondary studies. We are aiming to host our inaugural event on Sunday February 9th, 2020.
In their words: “Long term success would look like having youth in the community be informed about life after high school and have access to a network of professionals from their community. Have the momentum and community participation to repeat the event another year or in future years. Hold regular workshops on various life skills such as time management and note taking. Have more connections between members of our community. Youth who might not have considered post-secondary education or training can now imagine themselves doing it.”
