Team Wabano
What: Team Wabano is made up of Indigenous youth ages 13-17 living in the Ottawa area. They hope to inspire more youth to help reduce the stigma surrounding opioid use. They want to make a video of interviews showing the impact of opioids on users in recovery and their families. By telling the stories of ordinary and relatable community members, they hope to reduce stigma and help people see that opioid use could affect anyone.
In their words: “This project is based on the principles of social justice - access, equity, participation, and human rights. We want any youth to be able to do what we are doing if they are motivated to help and have access to a cell phone or computer. Our goal is to have a sustainable solution to reduce stigma surrounding opioid use.”
